Man held with 1 lakh SIM cards

Bhiwandi: A 33-year-old man, Anwar Shadab Ahmed Ansari alias Bablu, was arrested for offering overseas calls to people at cheaper rates. The police also recovered over one lakh SIM cards from Bablu, who owns a PCO.
Investigators believe that Bablu is a member of an international gang, which used a couple of numbers to offer calls at discounted rates.
Senior inspector of the Shanti Nagar police station in Bhiwandi, Subhash Divekar, received a tip-off about Bablu’s illegal activities. Divekar and inspector Dilip Suryavanshi laid a trap outside Bablu’s shop on the second floor of Kuresha Estate Building at Ravji Nagar on Thursday night.
A search of Bablu’s shop revealed nine gunny bags filled with SIM cards of different companies. The cops finished counting the number of SIM cards only on Friday morning.
The police suspect that Anwar operates across the country and abroad too. However police is taking help from the experts from the different mobile company service providers to arrest others involved in the racket.
Deputy commissioner of police C G Daithankar refused to comment. Bablu was produced before the Bhiwandi court on Friday and remanded in police custody for three days.
