Citizen by Birth –
• Anyone born in India from 26 Jan 1950 to 1 July 1987 is an Indian Citizen irrespective of whether his/ her parents are an Indian Citizen.
• Anyone born on or after 1 July 1987 but before 1 Jan 2003, in India is an Indian citizen if at least one of his/her parents is an Indian citizen.
• Anyone born in India on or after 1 Jan 2003 is called an Indian citizen if both of his parents are also an Indian citizen OR at least of his/her parents is an Indian citizen AND another is also in India at the time of his/her birth and is not illegally present in India.
Citizenship due to family –
• Anyone born abroad on or after 26 Jan 1950 but before 10 Dec 1992 is an Indian Citizen based on his family(Parents, Forefathers) being Indian.
• Anyone born abroad after 7 Jan 2004 would not get Indian citizenship based on having Indian family etc unless his birth is registered in Indian within 1 Year if his birth.
Acquiring Indian Citizenship:-
To get registered as an Indian citizen. Anyone of the following should hold true :-
• Anyone of Indian Origin who himself or whose parents were born in India and is living in India for last 7 years can get Indian citizenship.
• Anyone of Indian Origin who himself or whose parents were born in India and is living in India for last 7 years can get Indian citizenship.
